Monopoly

Monopoly is one of the most popular BoardGames of all time. It was invented by Charles Darrow in 1934 and is published by Parker Brothers.

The remarkable thing about Monopoly is that, unique among the classics, it's a truly awful game. The action consists of pieces going around and around on the same board. A player typically only makes one choice on a turn, and it's often a no-brainer. The winner is almost always determined by luck, usually about halfway through a typical four-hour game. The remaining two hours are a tedious game of attrition in which the winner slowly crushes the other players into bankruptcy, one random event at a time. During this phase of the game, players can go for hours without making any MeaningfulChoices at all.
