Hello Peter: 

The hexpack standard describes a hex as encircling a 2 inch diameter circle 
(the circle touching the midpoint of each of the six sides). 

That's the way our hexes are sized - essentially two inches across from 
centerpoint to centerpoint.  This means that each individual side is 
actually less than 2 inches long.
