RE: [piecepack] The Spiral?

The spirals are used because it should be impossible to determine the suit of a coin from its value side. Using the suit symbol would "mark" the coin. Many hidden information games rely on the anonymity...

Subject: [piecepack] The Spiral?

Hello all,

I'm getting ready to make a piecepack for my husband for Christmas. I have the wooden parts and was planning to paint the surfaces using the PDFs here (http://www.piecepack.org/Printable.html) as a guide.

My question is this -- could the spiral on the coins be replaced by the appropriate suit? It seems to me that that might be more aesthetically pleasing. Are the spirals used because of the small space on the coins to paint in?

Also, what's with the direction marks on the coins? Can't you tell by the symbol or value which direction the coins point in?

Thanks for any advice!
Koala
