= Seattle Cosmic Game Night, Saturday, 24 April 2004 = == Wherein Many Regulars Are Absent, and Nobody's Taking Notes == Seattle Cosmic Game Night met again on 24 April at the house of ["David Adams"] and ["Kathy Kizer"] in Tukwila. Attendees included ["David Adams"], ["Nat Dupree"], ["Steve Dupree"], ["Ryan Eyer"] and ["Emily Miller"], ["Mark Haggerty"] with an Ecuadorian friend, ["Dave Howell"], ["Ava Jarvis"], ["Jay Lorch"], ["Alex Rockwell"], AlphaTim Schutz, and ["Ben Sklar"]. === Bohnaparte === http://rbg.grandfenwick.net/seattlecosmic/pix/20040424/IMG_1211.JPG Game: ["Bohnaparte"] (["Bohnanza"] Variant) BR Location: Dining RoomBR Time: 6ishBR Winner: SteveBR Prize: ?BR Scores | PLAYER | SCORE | | Steve D | 10 | | Dave A | 8 | | Kisa G | 3? | | Nat D | 3 | Bohnaparte is a Bohnanza variant wherein the standard bean planting and the coins you earn from it aren't victory points directly; instead they are used to fuel your bitter turf war in the center of the table. One interesting aspect of the expansion is that the "lowest" value beans (Blue Beans - 20s) suddenly become very valuable, because they are your ammunition in the battles. In the end, however, I (and Nat agreed with me) wasn't particularly impressed. It seemed to me that I won partially because I had the last turn. Nat and Kisa were probably out of it, but if there had been one or two less beans on the deck and the game had ended on Kisa's turn, Dave would have won. There is also the standard problem in a territory game, i.e. the rich get richer; there is no counterbalancing method in this game. --["Steve Dupree"] === Starship Catan === http://rbg.grandfenwick.net/seattlecosmic/pix/20040424/IMG_1212.JPG Game: ["Starship Catan"] BR Players: ["Alex Rockwell"], ["Ben Sklar"]BR Location: Living RoomBR Time: 6-ishBR === Runaway Train === http://rbg.grandfenwick.net/seattlecosmic/pix/20040424/IMG_1213.JPG Game: ["RunAway Train"] BR Players: AlphaTim Schutz, ["Mark Haggerty"], Ecuadorian friend, ["Ryan Eyer"] and ["Emily Miller"], BR Location: Living RoomBR Time: 7ishBR Winner: AlphaTim SchutzBR Prize: Much JoyBR Scores | PLAYER | SCORE | | AlphaTim | 59 | | Emily Miller | 49 | | Ryan Eyer | 45 | | Mark Haggerty | 38 | | Ecuadorian friend | 33 | This is my prototype game RunAway Train. I wanted to give it one more play-test and test out the minor changes I have made before I shipped it down to this year\x92s KublaCon Game Contest. We played the 3 game variant where you play 3 games and then at the end of the third game you add the score from you highest scoring game to your lowest scoring game and leave out the score from your middle scoring game. This is the first time playing that variant and it worked quite well. The neat thing about the three game variant is that you really don\x92t know who the winner will be until the third game is finished or at least close to the end of that game. I was able to win by scoring a real good score in the last game of 49 points. All three games where played in about 30 minutes. Emily and Ryan have played this game two other times before and commented that they like this version the best. So do I. -- AlphaTim Schutz === Puerto Rico === http://rbg.grandfenwick.net/seattlecosmic/pix/20040424/IMG_1214.JPG Game: ["Puerto Rico"] BR Players: ["Alex Rockwell"], ["Ben Sklar"]BR === Tales of the Arabian Nights === http://rbg.grandfenwick.net/seattlecosmic/pix/20040424/IMG_1215.JPG Game: ["Tales of the Arabian Nights"] BR Players: ["Kisa Griffin"], ["Dave Howell"], ["Ava Jarvis"], AlphaTim Schutz BR Location: Living RoomBR Time: 8:50 pmBR Winner: AlphaTim Schutz BR Prize: More JoyBR It seems like a good example of a kind of game I'm not really into, where the interesting-ness of the game comes from having lots and lots of rules. We played the "simplified" version, but I was unable to feel out what the consequences of my actions would be, so it was hard to know what to do when. Otheer players had more fun than I, I think. --["Dave Howell"] === Fluxx === http://rbg.grandfenwick.net/seattlecosmic/pix/20040424/IMG_1216.JPG Game: ["Fluxx"] BR Players: ["Ben Sklar"], ["Mark Haggerty"], Mark's friend, ???, ["David Adams"]BR Location: Dining RoomBR Time: 8:50 pmBR === Ticket To Ride === http://rbg.grandfenwick.net/seattlecosmic/pix/20040424/IMG_1217.JPG Game: ["Ticket to Ride"] BR Players: ["Steve Dupree"], ["Alex Rockwell"], ["Emily Miller"], ["Ryan Eyer"]BR Location: KitchenBR Time: 8:50 pmBR Once again, getting lots of tickets and making them all was the winning strategy.
