(For anyone who doesn't know, by the bye, Ed has been helping to moderate this list for close to two decades, and I am very, very thankful!)
Honestly, I'm not too broken-hearted by the news of Yahoo Groups' demise. I have been annoyed with it for some time, but not annoyed enough, it seems, to have moved the group yet.
Here are some of our options so far:
1) Migrate the piecepack list, including its membership and historical content, to groups.io. As Ed pointed out, this would incur a small cost, which is not really an issue. The bigger issue to me is asking people to sign up on yet another site, although it appears that if you never visit the site itself, you won't need a login. So, maybe not so bad.
2) Create a new Google Group and ask everyone to join. I would bet the majority of list members have already signed up to be tracked by our benevolent overlords. In this case, I think we would try to archive the historical content and make it available in some static form.
3) Archive (and host somewhere) the historical content and then just rely on existing Facebook, Reddit, and BGG for community.
All I really want is a place for anyone interested in the piecepack to go and share ideas and announcements. I would like the lowest barrier of entry possible for finding the community, signing up (if that's even needed) and communicating. If it's a site that does a good job of preventing spam so that we no longer have to police it, that would be fantastic. I am not worried so much about hosting files and other such features.
