Re: [piecepack] traditional games

I'd treat it like theatre. If an author takes someone's play and
updates/rewrites/etc. it, there are listed as the "adaptor". I think it's
an appropriate word in this case, and properly credits you for taking the
time to do the translation, while crediting the fact that someone else was
the inventor. Something like...

"Quartri by Unknown Author, Adapted to the piecepack by Joe Smith"

Rob

Subject: [piecepack] traditional games

> This is a request for opinions from group members regarding how to specify
authorship for traditional games transcribed for piecepack. Recently, I sent
Karol transcriptions for three old traditional abstract games (4-Field Kono,
Jul-Gonu, and Quatri). These are now on piecepack.org, and I am listed as
the author for each. When the rules set for one of these is pulled up, it
lists that Michael Schoessow adapted the game for piecepack. When Karol
posted them, she informed me that, in the list, I would be listed as author,
and I didn't think much about it at the time. Now though, after seeing the
games on piecepack.org with my name attached, I feel that this is
inappropriate and misleading (I'm not blaming Karol; we're all busy these
days), and I would like to hear opinions for alternatives. Personally, I
would like to see the word, Traditional, inserted for author (or, in the
case of 4-Field Kono and Jul-Gonu, Traditional Korean). There are other
possibilities however; the author could be listed as, Unknown, or,
Traditional; Author Unknown. Thoughts anyone? Karol?
